Beech cutting board
A beech cutting board is the classic among wooden cutting boards, and for good reason. Beech is light in colour and has a fine, even grain. The wood for the cutting boards often comes from European forests. Beech is kind to your knives and your wallet. Beech wood cutting boards are available in a range of sizes, from compact to large cutting boards.
Features of a beech wood cutting board
A beech wood cutting board is medium-hard, with a dense and even structure. The surface is soft enough to protect the edge of your knife, while still being sturdy enough for everyday use. A glass board does not give and, due to the hardness of the material, is not suitable for regular cutting. It is better suited as a serving board.
There is one point to consider: beech absorbs moisture faster than acacia or teak. If you leave the board wet, it will warp and the fibres will rise. After rinsing, dry the board thoroughly with a cloth, then leave it upright to finish drying.
Would you like something that lasts even longer? Then consider an end-grain beech board. With end grain, the ends of the wood fibres are facing upwards, which is different from fibres rising due to moisture. As a result, the edge passes between the fibres rather than cutting across them: the fibres give slightly and then spring back, putting less strain on your knife and keeping it sharp for longer. Scratches and cut marks are also less noticeable. Keep the wood nourished with cutting board oil and view the rest of our wooden cutting boards here.
