The distinctive design is unique to Spyderco knives. The round thumb hole is world famous and typically Spyderco. Innovation is at the heart of this brand, making it a leading name in the knife industry. The brand chooses steel grades to suit specific needs, such as tough tool steels or stainless steels for marine applications.
Spyderco product types
Spyderco Lightweight
The Spyderco Lightweight knives are a collection of lightweight knives with a FRN handle. FRN stands for Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon, a lightweight and grippy material. A significant part of the Spyderco collection falls under the Lightweight range.
Spyderco Salt
Looking for a knife that won't rust in any condition? Meet the Salt collection! These stainless knives are specifically intended for maritime use. In H1 steel, the carbon has been replaced by nitrogen, preventing the blades from rusting. When it comes to MagnaCut steel, it has a high level of chromium to prevent oxygen from affecting the steel.
Spyderco Sprint Runs & Flash batches
Spyderco often collaborates with well-known designers and brands for exclusive limited-edition models, but also produces many designs in-house. The Flash batches are manufactured once and then never again. The Sprint-Runs knives are limited editions. These knives are very cool collector's items.
Spyderco CPM MagnaCut knives
MagnaCut is a premium CPM steel type with excellent corrosion resistance and cutting properties. Because of this excellent corrosion resistance, this steel type is often used in the Salt series as well. For those who want to get their hands on a knife with excellent cutting properties, the MagnaCut range is perfect.
Spyderco slipjoint knife
Spyderco offers a range of modern knives with a slipjoint mechanism, meaning they don't have a full lock. Knives that lack a full locking mechanism are often legal to carry in countries or regions with strict knife laws.
Spyderco fixed-blade knife
While Spyderco is mostly known for their pocket knives, they also offer a variety of cool fixed-blade knives. For example, there's the Spyderco Stok, designed by Knivesandtools' very own content marketeer Sjoerd Stok.
Spyderco kitchen knives
You might be surprised to learn that Spyderco has also been making kitchen knives since the 1980s. Spyderco kitchen knives are high-quality, made from stainless steel, and offer low-maintenance comfort in the kitchen.
Spyderco sharpening products
Before they started manufacturing knives, Spyderco made products for sharpening. In its early years, the company focused on selling sharpening products, including the original Tri-Angle Sharpmaker. Today, Spyderco still has a large selection of sharpening products designed to meet different needs. Their range includes different sharpening products, ranging from simple portable sharpening stones to elaborate systems for home use.

History of Spyderco
One of the most important individuals in the knife world is Sal Glesser. In 1967, he founded Spyderco with his wife Gail. In 1981 the first Spyderco pocket knife was produced, the C01 Worker. This knife stood out because of the round hole in the blade. Specifically made to open the knife with one hand. This hole, also called the Spydiehole, is still one of the most important features on a Spyderco knife.
It all started in a small van. In this van, they drove through the States to sell their products. Nowadays, Spyderco works with factories all over the world: China, Japan, Taiwan, Italy and, of course, their own factory in America. Often in cooperation with world-famous knife makers and designers. They also supply knives to the U.S. Army and Spyderco is a first choice for many first responders. If that isn't an American success story, we don't know what is.
