Often, it's not because of the components, but how the components are put together. Not with an HDS torch! All threads are also fitted with O-rings to keep moisture out of the lamp.

The only thing that moves in the housing are the sprung battery contact points. Because the battery is spring-loaded, there is never any play and the torch keeps working, as it should. The LED and other components are securely sealed in the housing. Because the tolerances are so small, it's practically impossible for parts to break.

Light intensity

With torches it's all about light output. HDS knows this, so only the clearest, glass lenses are used, and these lenses also feature anti-reflection coating to reduce internal reflection to the absolute minimum. As little light as possible really is lost in HDS LED torches.

There is up to 40% variation in light output per watt between LEDs from the same manufacturer made in the same batch. Hence, HDS calibrates each LED by matching the power supply to the LED so that the torch operates exactly to specifications. As such, HDS flashlights work a lot longer than the value that is listed.

Light output

Torch enthusiasts will be pleased to learn that HDS does not use 'Pulse Width Modulation', instead dimming the LED continuously in lower light modes. As a result, the torches give a very calm and pleasant light image even at very low light levels. That's why HDS torches realise up to 0.02 lumens of light output without any problems!

HDS Rotary switch

HDS is mostly known for its exceptionally functional rotating switch. The switch gives you access to 24 light modes. The number of light modes is not what is exceptional, the logarithmic distribution of the modes is. Our eyes cannot properly tell the difference between different light modes if they are not clearly stronger or weaker than the previous light mode. To prevent certain light modes from looking similar (even though they are different), HDS Systems always has a 1.5x decrease or increase from the previous mode, this allows you to see each individual mode as a separate mode.
