A small, versatile fixed blade that’s almost invisible to me, this Buck 662 Back Country with its Cerakote finish is simply perfect for what you’d expect from a small fixed knife. Its Kydex sheath fits perfectly, and the quick belt attachment lets you position it however you want. This knife is light, precise, and has a very well thought-out grip for small, precise cuts where you need to stay as close to the blade as possible. The jimping at the front of the blade and above the index finger gives us extra security. Personally, I’m not especially a fan of the plastic scales with the rubber coating. They offer excellent grip, but from experience, they don’t suit me. Unfortunately, after several uses, the Cerakote finish is not affected by cutting, but by the sheath. Repeatedly putting it in and taking it out creates friction points and the coating wears off. What I find most disappointing, though, is the quality of the 420HC steel. It’s a good little knife, but it has the annoying habit of dulling and wearing out very quickly. It is very easy to sharpen again, but that does not take away from the cutting performance once it’s been properly sharpened.
